The first weekend of Coachella 2024 has wrapped up, with Lana Del Rey, Tyler The Creator, and Doja Cat taking the top spots as headliners. This year’s lineup also featured a strong K-Pop presence, with ATEEZ, LE SSERAFIM, and The Rose gracing the festival stage.

As K-Pop continues to make its mark on Coachella, fans can’t help but reminisce about iconic moments like BLACKPINK’s headline-grabbing performance in 2023. But amidst the excitement, one question lingers: why hasn’t BTS graced the Coachella stage as headliners yet? Is it possible for BTS become Coachella headliners?

Cash Considerations: Are They Worth the Price Tag?

Let’s be real, BTS isn’t exactly cheap to book. While the exact numbers are hush-hush, we know they’re one of the highest-earning groups in the biz.
Coachella might just have a budget that doesn’t quite match BTS’s star power. Plus, with their own stadium tours selling out in minutes, they might not necessarily ‘need’ Coachella the way some artists do.

But, FYI, Coachella headliner fees typically range around $8 million. So, the question is, is that enough to bring BTS to the festival?

Finding the Right Fit: Coachella Vibes vs BTS’s Style

Coachella has a certain vibe – think indie rock, electronic dance music, and big name headliners. While BTS can definitely put on a show with the best of them, their music might not be the typical Coachella fare.

Their songs tend to be more personal and focused on the connection between them and their fans (ARMY, we see you!). Plus, Coachella attendees often come to see a variety of artists, whereas a BTS concert is a dedicated experience for their superfans.

But that doesn’t mean BTS isn’t well-known. I mean, who doesn’t know BTS? Everyone must at least know a bit of their most famous songs.

Busy Busy Busy: The BTS Schedule Struggle

These guys are superstars for a reason – they work hard! With constant touring, recording, and other projects, squeezing in a Coachella appearance might be a logistical nightmare.
It’s all about finding the balance between solo schedules and group commitments, and Coachella might just not fit the puzzle perfectly at this point in their careers.

Moreover, all seven members of BTS are currently fulfilling their mandatory military service in South Korea. They are scheduled to return as a complete group in June 2025. Perhaps Coachella 2026 could be the year BTS headlines the festival?

The ARMY Never Sleeps: Hope for the Future?

Despite their absence at Coachella, there’s no reason to lose hope! Coachella’s lineup changes every year, and with BTS’s ever-growing global influence, they could easily be headlining next year.

Here’s the thing: comparing BTS to other K-pop groups isn’t helpful. They’re all unique artists, and what works for one might not work for another. What truly matters is that BTS puts on a show that their fans love, no matter the venue.

So, ARMY, keep the dream alive! Maybe next year, Coachella will be painted purple (BTS’s signature color, for the uninitiated). Until then, we can all appreciate the epicness all performance and keep our fingers crossed for a future BTS extravaganza in the desert.
